The American data management company NetApp is acquiring Plexistor, which specializes in memory-based storage solutions. The deal is worth $20 million, according to the Israeli tech website Nocamels.
Plexistor has developed software for using nonvolatile memory as primary storage. In 2015 Plexistor came out with a software-defined memory product (SDM) to deliver high-capacity nonvolatile storage at near memory speed.
The acquisition is strategic for NetApp, which is investing in flash and other emerging storage technologies. It remains to be seen whether NetApp will integrate Plexistor's technology or sell it as a separate product.
