Tech aficionados turned out in droves for Mobile Sunday—the pre-Mobile World Congress networking event co-organised by Tech.eu and Rudy De Waele (shift2020)—in Barcelona last night.

Thanks to our kind sponsors Nasdaq and Skyroam, attendees enjoyed a fun-filled evening buzzing with speculation about the future of mobile tech.

After a jam-packed schedule of talks—including a fireside chat with Skyroam’s own Cory Jones about how the company grew their WiFi hotspot technology on a global scale—guests were entertained by the musical stylings of DJ Oisin Lunny as venue Antiga Fàbrica Estrella Damm let the beer taps flow.

It was certainly not all fun and games (although Skyroam’s bright orange sunglasses were a surprise hit of the evening), as we heard about some of the more concerning issues facing mobile technology in the future. Avast Software’s Gagan Singh explained the dangers of malware and how a minor burglary can lead to identity theft worth hundreds of thousands. Bas van Abel from Fairphone warned us about the impact our hardware has on the environment and why we should consider more sustainable options.

Mobile Sunday is all about innovation and inspiration, and our speakers did not disappoint. Founder and CEO of 30minMBA Therese Gedda gave a rousing speech about getting in the right frame of mind to start a business while BloomingFounders CEO Lu Li discussed her new book Dear Female Founder and why need need more female role models in the tech world.

We also heard from Benedict Evans from Silicon Valley VC firm Andreessen Horowitz, “mother of drones” Efrat Fenigson from Airobotics and author of Accelerated Startup Vitaly Golomb, as well as a panel of experts who work with big corporations to create or invest in real innovations: Barbara Belvisi (Hardware Club), Karolina Korth (Roche), Gregor Gimmy (BMW Startup Garage) and Rune Theill (Rockstart).

All in all a massively successful evening and the perfect way to warm up for the MWC and 4YFN events this week. Another huge thank you to our sponsors Nasdaq and Skyroam for making it all possible.

See you again next year! We’ll leave you with a few photo highlights from the networking portion of the event:
