NUMA teams up with mVenturesBcn to launch an accelerator for growth companies in Barcelona

NUMA and mVenturesBcn are launching an accelerator programme in Barcelona this year for innovative mobile startups from Europe and beyond. tech.eu caught up with NUMA's COO Frédéric Oru to find out more.

French innovation network NUMA and Mobile World Capital Barcelona’s mVenturesBcn have announced the launch of a new accelerator programme for early stage startups working in the mobile space.

The sixth-month programme, based in Barcelona and announced today at 4YFN, will guide and mentor 10 startups in the growth and expansion stage with an established business model and help them scale. The programme follows a similar one announced for France earlier this month.

Startups that are successfully chosen for the programme will receive €50,000 to cover costs such as moving to Barcelona.

The joint-venture of mVenturesBcn and NUMA will take a 6% in the companies that are selected.

mVenturesBcn says it is aiming to grow Barcelona as a centre for entrepreneurs to come and grow their business while building business links between the city and Paris.

“There’s a number of ways to help start-ups grow in Europe: sound product management, ambitious growth marketing, qualified introductions to international corporates and great connexion with other European tech hubs, such as Paris,” said Olivier Mougenot, investment director at NUMA. “We look forward to bringing all of those to Barcelona in partnership with Mobile World Capital Barcelona and to build a strong tie between Barcelona and Paris' ecosystems.”

tech.eu caught up with NUMA’s COO Frédéric Oru at 4YFN to find out more about the accelerator program. (Note that Oru says the programme will start in September. This is a mistake and it is in fact starting in November)
