App security platform Sqreen raises $2.3 million in seed funding round led by Alven Capital

French startup Sqreen, which develops an app security platform for developers, has closed a $2.3 million funding round from VCs and angels.

France’s Sqreen, a real-time protection platform for app developers, has raised $2.3 million in seed funding led by Paris investment firm Alven Capital.

Point Nine Capital, Kima Ventures, 50Partners also participated as well as several angel investors: Marc Verstaen, EVP of product development at Docker; Thibaud Elziere, Fotolia CEO; Francis Nappez, cofounder of Blablacar; Philippe Plichon, MD of southern Europe at Dropbox; and Justin Ziegler, cofounder of PriceMinister.

Sqreen is a platform for diagnosing vulnerabilities like SQL injection or cross site scripting in an app without altering the source code, according to its creators.

“Conventional approaches to security haven’t done much to make applications stronger and the complexity intimidates most developers. We have been attacking products for years and have experienced first-hand the disconnect between diagnosis and remediation,” said Sqreen CEO Pierre Betouin.

“Our goal is to put security back into products and let the developers embrace this role again. It is pretty obvious that products should now be embedding their own security logic to protect themselves.”

Early stage startups that are growing fast tend to overlook security and Sqreen addresses these shortcomings in apps efficiently, said Rodolphe Menegaux, partner at Alven.
