Dutch printing platform Helloprint raises €3 million in first funding round

Helloprint, a Rotterdam-based online print platform, has raised €3 million in funding. Among the investors is Dutch tech investor and Traffic4u founder Gert Jan Munneke who has joined the advisory board.

The previously bootstrapped startup provides a DIY printing platform for small businesses but without owning any printing facilities, instead finding the best deal on a printing shop for the customer. It will be using the funds to grow its team and expand its services to more countries.

Currently the startup employs 100 people and is active in the Netherlands, Belgium, France, Spain and the UK. It plans to reach 150 employees and 13 markets by the end of the year with a view to being viable challengers to the likes of Vistaprint.

Helloprint had eschewed funding up until this point in order to grow independently, said CEO Hans Scheffer, but now was the right time to seek outside funds.

“We were looking for an investor with entrepreneurial vision and spirit, who contributes expertise, knows what it’s like to go through a period of enormous growth and who, above all, is very familiar with the online media landscape. That’s exactly the kind of entrepreneurial investor that Gert Jan is,” he said.

Munneke added: “In an online world where nothing is unique and anything that succeeds is immediately copied, the most important thing of all is that you ultimately have the best team and that’s what Helloprint has, without a doubt. That’s also why I am convinced that Helloprint will more than achieve its international ambitions.”
