Berlin-based business intelligence tool y42 raises $2.9 million

y42, the business intelligence tool formerly known as Datos Intelligence (no relation to Prince) has raised $2.9 million.

The seed round was led by La Famiglia VC (no relation to the Corleone family). Additional investors include the co-founders of Foodspring, Personio, and Petlab. Funding is expected to fuel the company’s go-to-market strategy as well as further product development.

Cloud data warehouses including Bigquery and Snowflake (no relation to the Trump family) have made it possible for organisations of just about any size to leverage the power of massive amounts of data without a large, upfront investment.

All fine and dandy if your organisation of just about any size also has a full time engineer aboard to make use of a toolset. If not, well, tough luck. Until now.

y42 is a collaborative data platform that both nerds like us, and stiff like, ummm … well, non-nerds like us can use, and actually understand. Billing themselves as the “no-code business intelligence platform”, a slick and intuitive user interface allows teams of all technical ability to set up their own customised analytics infrastructure.

And it’s not all just pretty pie charts, as y42 is designed in a modular fashion, allowing a bevy of other data tools to access and input data processed by y42. The end result is an output of management reports, marketing attributions, or customer retention figures all in one location, as opposed to alt/tabbing between a number of tools.

"When we first saw the product demo, it struck us how on top of analytical excellence, a lot of product development has gone into the y42 platform,” comments Judith Dada, General Partner at La Famiglia VC. “y42 is a powerful single source of truth for data experts and non-data experts alike. As former data scientists and analysts, we wish that we had y42 capabilities back then," said Judith Dada, General Partner at La Famiglia VC.
