Tallinn’s Bolt shifts into high gear with car-sharing service Bolt Drive

Ride-hailing, micromobility, and food and parcel delivery platform Bolt is now moving into the car-sharing space with Bolt Drive.

The company will invest €20 million in the initiative, beginning the pilot in its home market of Estonia.

With Bolt Drive, the company will become the first mobility platform in Europe that offers car-sharing, ride-hailing, and micromobility scooters and electric bikes all under one umbrella.

“Personal cars are the primary cause of problems in urban transport. For people to switch from ownership to on-demand transport, we need to offer a more convenient, affordable, and environmentally sustainable option for every distance,” comments Bolt CEO Markus Villig. “We are already doing this for short and medium distance trips. Bolt Drive now covers the rest of the use cases, whether it's a trip to a shopping mall or a weekend getaway.”

Similar to the scooter and bicycle option, Bolt Drive will function on a free-floating model, allowing users to locate vehicles nearest them and book via the app. Rides will start the minute the car is unlocked and finish when the user returns it to a predefined area. Adding to the convenience factor, users need not pay for parking or fuel.

Bolt counts more than 50 million users in over 40 countries across Europe and opperates 100% carbon neutral. Press photos for the Bolt Drive programme feature a fleet of electric and/or hybrid vehicles which would keep the company right in line with its Green Plan manifesto.
