Italian proximity marketing app CheckBonus raises €2 million

CheckBonus, an Italian proximity marketing startup, has raised €2 million led by Mediaset and other investors. The app lets users earn coupons and gift cards by physically entering retail locations.

The startup, founded by Pierluigi Casolari and Yuri Ceschin in 2013, currently works with more than 2,000 participating retail outlets that belong to more than 10 different retailers, including major chains in Italy such as Chicco, La Feltrinelli, OVS, Salmoiraghi & Viganò, and Geox. The purpose of the app is to increase engagement in the store and allow for direct communication with consumers.

The app is available for iOS and Android and rewards customers with discounts and gift cards in exchange for spending more time in shops and retail outlets.
