Dutch secure communication startup ZIVVER raises $12 million

Amsterdam-based communication platform with advanced security features ZIVVER has landed $12 million in a funding round led by Dawn Capital with participation from DN Capital and the existing investor henQ Capital Partners. The company is going to use the money to fuel its international expansion, with new offices opening soon in Belgium and Germany.

Similarly to two other secure communication companies — Siilo and Forward Health — that raised funding recently, ZIVVER was founded as a way to help healthcare professionals share the patient data. The startup's co-founders, Rick Goud and Wouter Klinkhamer, both consulted Dutch medical institutions and spotted the problem.

“We saw first hand the paradox that patients can greatly benefit when their medical files are shared between doctors and hospitals, but at the same time this data is so sensitive that sharing was made extremely difficult by security procedures,” Goud said. So we set ourselves the challenge to build a completely secure communications infrastructure that is accessed from Outlook and looks like regular email.”

Founded in 2017, ZIVVER states that 20 percent of hospitals and governmental institutions in the Netherlands send emails and share files using its platform. Among its features are data encryption and flagging of unusual user behaviour, while the system doesn't require any installation procedures to be used.
