UK startup Gravity Sketch raises £2.9 million for collaborative 3D design platform

Gravity Sketch, the London-based startup behind a 3D product design software, has closed a £2.9 million seed round led by Kindred Capital, with participation from Point Nine Capital and previous investors Forward Partners. The fresh funding will help scale up the newly launched collaboration feature and make the software fully hardware agnostic. The UK startup says its platform can save an auto manufacturer £40 million when designing a new car. Perhaps that’s why Ford, Nissan and Reebok are already on board (as well as about 60 universities).

Gravity Sketch is basically the remote working tool for 3D design. Designing physical products requires constant collaboration and many iterations, volleying sketches from designers to engineers or manufacturers and back again. The lack of tools, specifically for 3D design and globally distributed teams, has resulted in drawn out design processes (pun intended) and significant added costs. With this software, designers, engineers and manufacturers can all create and review together in real time, even more important since the pandemic began. The new remote-work normal has boosted demand by 40 percent, says the startup.

Gravity Sketch was founded by Oluwaseyi Sosanya, Daniela Paredes and Daniel Thomas in 2014. The round brings the startup’s total amount raised to $5.4 million, in addition to some initial grant funding from InnovationRCA and the James Dyson Foundation.
