MUSO raises £2.5 million to tackle online music piracy

MUSO, which creates tools for online content protection, has raised £2.5 million in a Series A round led by Harwell Capital to invest in its infrastructure and sales and marketing teams.

MUSO’s Retune platform track visits to sites hosting pirated content to redirect its users to legitimate sites in the hopes of turning these pirates into paying customers. MUSO was cofounded by CEO Andy Chatterley, a Grammy-nominated producer with credits alongside Kanye West and Kylie Minogue.

“Harwell Capital is the perfect investor for us. The team has deep experience in backing revenue generating, scalable technology companies in a high-growth stage and so completely understands MUSO’s aims and ambitions,” he said. His cofounders are Christopher Elkins and James Mason.

The MUSO platform could “completely transform the way illegal content is dealt with,” according to Daniel O’Brien, managing director of Harwell Capital, a Jersey-based VC firm, which led the round.
