Oxford University spin-off Animal Dynamics raises £6 million for its drone and UAV projects

Oxford-founded startup Animal Dynamics that develops unmanned aerial systems inspired by biological concepts has raised £6 million in a Series A funding round led by Oxford Sciences Innovation (OSI), with participation from Kindred Capital and Australian investment company Tanarra Capital.

Founded in 2015, Animal Dynamics currently focuses on two projects that seem to be aimed primarily at the defense sector.

The first one is called Skeeter and is based on the body plan of a dragonfly, which, as we've learned from the startup's website, is nature's most successful predator. The testing vehicles are 120 mm long, weigh less than 50 g, and can reach the speed of 45 km/h.

The second project, Stork, is a range of unmanned aerial delivery vehicles based on powered paraglider wing technology (pictured above). The stealthy low-cost machines are expected to be capable to carry from 30 kg to 100 kg depending on the model.
