Two UK-based equity crowdfunding platform providers have announced funding this week.
First, Seedrs announced that it had scored £10 million in funding from a VC fund backed by Lord Rothschild and fund manager Neil Woodford, in an effort to expand in the UK and overseas. The fundraising round values Seedrs at £30 million.
Today, its rival Crowdcube announced that it has raised £6 million in a round led by Numis, a UK stockbroker and corporate advisor. Tim Draper and London-based Draper Esprit have also joined this new funding round, alongside prior backers Balderton Capital.
Interestingly, Numis says it will work with Crowdcube and regulators to enable high-growth businesses who are ‘going public’ by listing shares on the London Stock Exchange’s Main Market or AIM, to access individual investors.
