Used electronics marketplace Certideal raises €2 million

Certideal, a marketplace for secondhand electronics, has raised €2 million in a funding round from Citizen Capital and Inter Invest Capital.

The French startup plans to use the new funds to hire developers, build a new app for the service, and launch in Spain, UK, Italy, and Germany in 2018.

The marketplace was launched in 2015 for the buying and selling of electronics like smartphones and laptops to extend the use of devices that would be otherwise dumped and to minimise environmental damage caused by discarded electronics.

All items are tested and certified by technical experts to ensure authenticity with 18 month guarantees. According to the company, it handles around 4,000 device sales every month. It faces competition in its native France from Back Market, which raised €7 million this year.
