Maltese HTML5 games publisher FRVR raises $3 million from Accel

Malta-based FRVR, a game publisher behind a number of big HTML5 titles, has secured a $3 million funding round led by Accel, with participation from the Makes Fund, Paul Heydon, David Helgason, and other angel investors.

FRVR specialises in “hyper-casual” HTML5 games that run in browsers on any device and can be ported to different platforms, including chat apps and app stores. In total, FRVR has launched 32 games so far, with another 19 currently under development. The company's biggest game, Basketball FRVR, has had 5.6 billion games played by users since its release in 2017.

The startup will use the fresh funding to distribute its games into new markets, most notably in Asia through WeChat. It currently employs 14 members across the offices in Malta, London, Seville, and Copenhagen, and is planning to expand the team in all locations.
