Dublin-based AR gaming startup WarDucks raises €3.3 million from EQT Ventures

Irish augmented reality (AR) gaming startup WarDucks has raised €3.3 million in a funding round led by EQT Ventures, with participation from Suir Valley Ventures and other investors. The startup will use the capital injection to fuel the development of its yet unnamed location-based mobile AR game.

Founded by Nikki Lannen, who used to be part of Facebook's gaming department, WarDucks has added some famous names to the team. It's hired Doug Kaufman, the game designer behind Civilization II and Frontierville, to become its lead game designer, as well as added the first-person shooter (FPS) pioneer John Romero as a consultant. Romero is mostly known by the person behind some of the very first FPS games like Wolfenstein 3D, DOOM, DOOM II and Quake.

EQT Ventures mentioned in a press release that WarDucks was first discovered by Motherbrain, the company's AI-powered deal sourcing platform. Check out a recent episode of our podcast to learn more about it from Henrik Landgren, analytics partner at EQT Ventures:
