Stockholm-based cryptocurrency startup Bitrefill raises $2 million

Swedish cryptocurrency startup Bitrefill has landed $2 million in a fiat funding round led by Coin Ninja, with participation from Charlie Lee, Fulgur Ventures, and Bnktothefuture. The startup expects to use the funding to expand its development and marketing teams.

Bitrefill, which builds its products for Bitcoin's Lightning Network, states its mission as to help people live on cryptocurrency. It does it by allowing people to buy gift cards and mobile phone top-ups using Lightning, Bitcoin, or other cryptocurrencies. Currently, it's selling cards and refills from more than 1,650 businesses in 170 countries.

Founded in 2017, Bitrefill currently has a team of 16 people.
