Alarmingly, one in three children has suffered mental health problems since the outbreak of the pandemic. The global digital health market is predicted to be worth around $640 billion by 2026. While the market for digital mental health products for adults is growing steadily, there are hardly been any offerings for young people.
Enter Berlin-based meditation and sleep app Aumio, which helps children grow up healthy and less stressed. Kids have access to a constantly growing selection of child-friendly entertainment in the form of meditations, audio games, yoga exercises, and bedtime stories.
The startup has now raised €3 million in funding. The seed round was led by VC firm Partech and community-powered fund byFounders. The founders of Urban Sports Club, Amboss, Vivino, and Researchgate also participated.
The funding will drive Aumio’s recruitment and expansion across Europe and the U.S. More than 200,000 families are already using the platform in the DACH region. In addition to English and German, content is now available in Ukrainian too.
Explaining how the app is boosting children’s entertainment, Jean Ochel, psychologist and founder of Aumio, who also suffered from ADHD as a child, said: “The app is specifically tailored to the needs of families. It playfully teaches children how to deal with stress, anxiety or sleep problems in their everyday lives. Aumio is the app I wish I had when I was a kid with ADHD.”
Tilman Wiewinner, co-founder of Aumio added: “We are seeing a new generation of parents and educators who care deeply about providing their children with quality experiences and child-centered content. With Aumio, we are launching a new era of entertainment that is fun for kids but also mindful and beneficial for their mental health at the same time. We want to become the Disney for mental health.”
The startup has already begun to partner with leading German health insurance companies, including Allianz, TK, and KKH, among others. Aumio offers tailored content for schools and more than 900 teachers are already using Aumio in the classroom.
Finn Weise, investor at Partech concluded: “The trend shows that mental health will become as important as physical health in the coming years. Aumio is helping thousands of families with mindful parenting.”
