A Cambridge-based deep tech start-up founded by a former Amazon Alexa scientist called Theia Insights has raised $6.5 million as it looks to disrupt the investment industry through AI.

Theia Insights funding round was led by Silicon Valley’s Unusual Ventures, with further funding from Fidelity International Strategic Ventures, and LA-based Clocktower Ventures, alongside several strategic angels.

In short, Theia Insights (which is named after Theia, the Greek god of sight) says it can distill vast amounts of financial information through AI and other tech so investors can make better decisions.

It says it leverages the latest developments in AI, machine learning, Natural Language Processing (NLP) and Large Language Models (LLM), to build models which help the likes of fund managers and index providers make improved investment decisions.

It is looking to disrupt an industry which is dominated by the likes of S&P, MSCI, and MornigStar.

Doctor Ye Tian, founder and CEO of Theia Insights, said:

“We live in the age of data overflow - everything from geopolitics to financial filings, to social media and news.

“It’s often overwhelming and easy to get lost in the noise. But good investment decisions require clarity, and that is where AI can play an unrivalled role - by lifting us from the valley to the mountain top, so we can choose the paths we want to take by seeing where every path leads and how they connect.”

The startup, which has been largely self-funded to date, will use the funding to increase the size of the team from 12 to 20 this year and help build out its tech.
