Aflorithmic Labs, a London and Barcelona-based ‘Audio-as-a-Service’ startup, has raised a $1.3 million seed round from Australian media company Crowd Media Holdings.
With Aflorithmic’s AI, anyone can create professional-quality audio pieces, or what the startup calls ‘synthetic media’. Starting with a text, users can choose a speaker from the vast voice library, or record their own voice and create personalised audio content via voice cloning AI. Then users can add music and other complex audio engineering, and finally deliver the result to any device or platform — all without any previous production experience.
Especially interesting is the potential for hyper-personalised content at scale. A single audio item can be reproduced into unlimited pieces of content by personalising it for every listener, with the audio text adapting to their name, location, experience and more.
Some use cases for that include children’s stories narrated with the voice of a family member; hyper-personalised podcasts; and voice cloning for marketing apps or videos. “Imagine Kim Kardashian being a personal shopper for each of her 200 million followers, or Lewis Hamilton explaining why you personally need the new Pirelli P Zero Rosso,” said Timo Kunz, the startup’s co-founder and CEO.
The company is working with other businesses to bring these use cases to life.
As part of the investment agreement, Aflorithmic’s technology will be integrated with Crowd’s social commerce apps, including CM8’s Talking Head technology, an AI-driven customer service chatbot.
