Dutch zero-commission hotel booking platform Bidroom has raised €15 million from several family offices, Emerce reported. The company will use the fresh capital for international expansion and hiring.
Founded in 2014, Bidroom is a closed platform that charges its users membership fees for access to hotel deals. This model supposedly allows Bidroom to get lower rates from the hotels it's working with, as most of the other booking platforms take a cut of up to 20 percent of each booking. The closed platform model also allows the startup to circumvent the requirements by most of the large booking platforms, which usually don't allow the member hotels to advertise lower prices.
With the new round of funding, Bidroom plans to expand its staff across the two offices in Amsterdam and Krakow, Poland, from 50 to 200 people. It also plans to redesign and update the platform itself.
Bidroom is also looking for more hotels to expand the offering on the platform and offers the first 10,000 of them to join for free. In addition to that, the startup is looking for partnerships similar to that it has with Visa, which allows Visa cardholders in Europe to use the service free of charge for six months.
