Belgian pet food developer and delivery service Dog Chef raises €1 million

Dog Chef, a Belgian startup that produces fresh food for pets, has raised €1 million from Proplast, Seeder Fund and two business angels. The funding will help them develop their workshop near Brussels and grow the team. Wanting to provide tailor-made meals for each hound, the company has created an algorithm to calculate daily portions based on ten parameters, such as age, breed, weight, build and physical activity. The four standard recipes, which are made with food you might find on any fortunate human’s table (chicken and rice, beef and potatoes, duck and sweet potatoes or even fish and quinoa), are all developed by veterinary nutritionists. The meals don’t contain any additives and preservatives, but owners can decide to add in a supplement. Dog Chef has developed a few of them, some targeted to old or sick animals. Founded in 2017, Dog Chef delivers the meals throughout Benelux and, just recently, France as well. The upcoming recruiting spree will seek new talents for meal preparation, customer service and marketing. The pet tech company says it wants to overhaul its brand and visual identity before it scales.
