Online courses for the creative community platform Domestika raises $110 million, now at $1.3 billion valuation

Born in Spain, since migrated to San Francisco, and now making a charge back across Europe, online learning platform for creatives Domestika has raised $110 million in a Series D funding round, now giving the company a valuation of $1.3 billion.

Having simultaneously launched services in England, France, Germany, and Italy in the middle of last year, Domestika’s new ink on the pen, film in the camera, paint on the palette, will be used primarily to support the growth of the company’s UK presence. The least of which will include the groundbreaking of a new creator studio, allowing more courses to be produced by U.K.-based experts.

Like many a successful startup, Domestika comes from humble beginnings. What started as an online forum designed to help creative professionals connect and learn from each other has now blossomed into a platform offering more than 2,000 courses taught by 1,300 creative professionals, with more than 110 new courses coming online each month. Likewise, since its beginnings as a formalised venture in 2010, this “small” community has paved the way for more than 13 million courses completed.

“Domestika's purpose is to connect creative minds from around the world and help them to unleash their potential by learning from renowned experts and from each other. We enable creatives to learn and share ideas wherever they are,” explained CEO and co-founder Julio G. Cotorruelo. “We plan to fuel this growth by expanding our offering in various languages and by continuing to bring the highest level of creative training in an accessible and affordable way.”

Domestika’s $110 million Series D funding round was led by Zeev Ventures and saw participation from GSV and other private investors.

“At a time when it’s never been more vital for people to follow their passions and tap into their creativity, Domestika now has the scale to impact millions more around the world through its unique approach to education in creativity,” commented Zeev Ventures’ Oren Zeev. “Julio and his team have done an outstanding job in realizing their vision of building meaningful social learning experiences and bringing together curious minds from across the globe. I am excited to support the team as they continue to innovate and grow.”
