Saplo, a Swedish startup specialised in text analysis for publishers, has been acquired by Sprinkle for an undisclosed amount. Sources close to the deal tell us the amount wasn’t massive but 'good enough'.
Professor Sverker Sikström and Mattias Tyrberg founded Saplo in Malmö circa 2008. The company has since raised north of one million dollars and boasts Göran Grosskopf, chairman of IKEA, as one of their investors.
Over the years, the community has recognised their expertise with several awards. In 2008, they became Seedcamp London finalists. In 2011, the Swedish Institute listed them as one of Sweden’s twenty most innovative companies.
The acquisition makes a plenty of sense for Sprinkle, also a Swedish company. They specialise in digital content for publishers and Saplo’s technology is a nice addition. Magnus Hultman, CEO of Sprinkle, explains:
“Saplo’s expertise in text analysis and machine learning is absolute world class. By getting them onboard, we take a big step forward and create a solution that’s very competitive internationally”.
After the operation, both companies will be known as Strossle. Strossle is in the middle of an international push and already has offices in Stockholm, Malmö, Oslo, Copenhagen, Amsterdam and Madrid.
