French Artsper, an e-commerce platform dedicated to contemporary art, has raised €2 million from Frédéric Jousset, co-founder of Webhelp and owner of Beaux Arts magazine. The startup intends to use the funding to double its workforce and expand internationally.

Artsper is an online sales platform for contemporary art. With a catalog of more than 40,000 paintings, sculptures and works in more than 1,000 galleries around the world, the startup wants to make the art market accessible to everyone. The user can search the site according to their tastes and budget and then choose one of the works presented on the platform. The market for online art, estimated at $3.3 billion in 2015, is expected to triple to around $10 billion by 2020.

Artsper especially hopes to develop in the UK this year, and Germany and Italy are expected to be next countries on the list for expansion in early 2018. The startup posted a 300 percent increase in sales in 2016 and a new sales record of €90,000, and plans to double its workforce this year, from 27 to 50 employees.
