Switzerland-based AI healthcare startup SOPHiA GENETICS has landed $77 million in a funding round led by Generation Investment Management, with participation from Idinvest Partners and existing investors including Balderton Capital and Alychlo. The capital injection brings the total amount raised by the company to $140 million.

Founded in 2011, SOPHiA GENETICS has developed the SOPHiA AI platform used by more than 850 hospitals across 77 countries. It helps healthcare professionals to make sense of genomic and radiomic data for oncology and hereditary disorders and has already supported the diagnosis of over 300,000 patients.

"By helping clinical researchers leverage their expertise and work together as a community,” said Dr. Jurgi Camblong, CEO and Founder of SOPHiA GENETICS. “With Generation's support, we will enable the more rapid adoption of data-driven medicine technology in healthcare for the benefit of patients worldwide."

Currently, SOPHiA GENETICS has offices in Lausanne and Boston. The company plans to use the fresh funding to hire more people on the US side to help its expansion to the American market.
