Amsterdam 'festival tech' startup Woov secures €2 million in funding

Just in time for the summer festival season, Amsterdam-based tech startup Woov has announced the closing of a €2 million seed investment round after signing up 1 million users to its platform.

Woov aims to bring event organisers, artists and visitors together on a digital platform so everyone can spend less time on their phones rather than enjoy the party. The mobile technology platform was developed by founders Sebastien Westerduin and Irfan van Ewijk to scratch their own itch, featuring interactive maps and more to help festival goers immediately see where their friends are hanging out, and what is going on in real time during an event.

This year, Woov says it will connect more than 800 festivals in more than 41 countries , including some big ones like Mysteryland, Nature One, King's Day Amsterdam, Amsterdam Dance Event and more.

Woov has raised the seed round from a number of angel investors, including Wesley ter Haar (founder and COO of MediaMonks) and Christoph Goeken (CEO of M-Venture, the innovation and investment unit of Mast-Jägermeister), in preparation of a Series A round around the end of the year.

The startup currently employs 25 people with 10 different nationalities.

"I’ve experienced first-hand the frustration of not having access to a reliable and operationally focused app that makes executing events easier for project teams," comments van Ewijk. "We wanted to build Woov differently - to make it easier for organisers (at all levels) to access technology that helped them stay closer to their audience and gain insights and visitor feedback into how to improve their events. We think it’s crazy that we live in such a technologically advanced world, yet festival apps have remained these clunky, content-heavy, battery-vampires - that seem more interested in maximising screen-time than getting visitors out of the admin-hassle and back into the show."
