ThingTrax, a London-based provider of smart technology solutions for the manufacturing industry, has closed a $1 million seed round led by SuperSeed, with support from industrial specialist Sumaria. The funding will go to global customer acquisition as well as expanding the sales and technical teams.
The UK startup aims to digitally transform factories into “smart manufacturing hubs”. The end-to-end platform connects machines, robotics and workers through a combination of cloud computing, IoT, AI and, most recently, computer vision — tracking and displaying all the data in one dashboard.
The computer vision element helps customers monitor not only the objects being manufactured, but also the employees on the clock. In a press release, the startup says the platform is used to make sure workers are complying with COVID-19 social distancing regulations and also to perform internal contact tracing within some facilities.
Deployed in factories across plastics, automotive, FMCG, medical, and packaging, the platform’s benefits vary to fit the industry. “For instance, in plastics, efficiencies can be made to cut energy usage and make the factory more sustainable, and for the automotive industries, if there is downtime in part of the production, skilled workers can be deployed elsewhere on the line,” explains Mads Jensen, managing partner of SuperSeed.
ThingTrax was founded in 2015 by Aman Gupta, previously an associate partner at IBM responsible for the digital transformation strategy of European manufacturing and supply chain companies, and Imran Shafqat, a former Microsoft employee with 17 years’ experience in cloud architecture.
