Italian e-grocery startup Cortilia raises €34 million to get fresh local food to people's homes

Italian grocery delivery company Cortilia has closed a €34 million Series C round to fuel expansion as a sustainable B-corp. Claiming to be Italy’s 'first online agricultural marketplace', Cortilia is now a full stack e-commerce company with a catalogue of 2,500 food products. The service, currently active in the regions of Lombardy, Emilia-Romagna and Piedmont, connects consumers with the selection from farmers, breeders and artisans. A similar business model in Italy was funded recently, when Deliveristo announced a €4.5 million Series A round last month. Both based in Milan, the two foodtech companies have at least one major difference: while Deliveristo focuses on supplying restaurants, Cortilia delivers to people’s homes. The round was led by Red Circle Investments and joined by all previous institutional investors: Italian VC Indaco Ventures, foodtech fund Five Seasons Ventures, Primomiglio and P101. Renzo Rosso is joining the board. Back in September 2019, the startup raised a €8.5 million Series B.
