Berlin-based academic community virtual conference and publishing platform Morressier raises $18 million in Series A round

Berlin’s academic community virtual conference and publishing platform Morressier has raised $18 million in a Series A round led by Owl Ventures. The round also saw participation from existing investors Cherry Ventures and Redalpine. Morressier notes that the funding will be used to propel growth as well as launch new community and analytics features.

“Morressier is unlocking and democratizing access to knowledge with its seamless end-to-end virtual conference platform, enabling learners and researchers around the world to share and advance innovative ideas and breakthroughs,” comments Owl Ventures’ Tory Patterson.

Founded in 2014 by Justus Weweler, Rino Montiel, and Sami Benchekroun, Morressier focuses on the scientific community, namely via its virtual conference and publishing platforms. To date, the company counts more than 200 of the world’s leading professional and scientific organisations including ACS, IOPP, and SPIE amongst its client roster.

Seeking to solve the age-old question of ephemeral conference content, Morressier seeks to differentiate itself from other players on the market through connecting, indexing, and publishing all conference materials via a digital library. The library may then be accessed well into the future, ensuring not only valuable points of reference but also that materials can reach far beyond conference attendees.

“The past year saw an unprecedented shift to the online realm and highlighted the importance of providing better ways to meet and exchange content, particularly in vital verticals such as medicine and R&D,” says Benchekroun. “At Morressier, we are harnessing this momentum to build a more accessible conference system, one in which all researchers can discover valuable content, build on each other’s ideas, and make progress faster.”

The only question now is, how fast will Hopin replicate the feature, or simply snap Morressier up?
