A little over a year after scoring $100 million, Finnish open source phenom Aiven has raised more than twice that amount - $210 million - at a pre-money valuation of $3 billion.

The Series D round was spearheaded by Eurazeo with participation from BlackRock and prior backers like IVP, Atomico, Earlybird, World Innovation Lab and Salesforce Ventures.

Much like Finland in general, Aiven is on a roll.

The Helsinki-based open source software scale-up says it has increased its headcount by more than 65% since October 2021 and aims to use the new funding to continue its hiring spree and international expansion in particular.

“Aiven’s mission is to make developers’ lives better, to help them build better applications,” commented Oskari Saarenmaa, co-founder and CEO of Aiven.

“Further investing in supporting open, community driven development of software and sustainable use of cloud services is a natural extension of what we value and have always wanted to achieve with Aiven,” he added.
