UiPath almunus Bogdan Nedelcov, who hails from Bucharest, co-founded New York-based Kubeark in a bid to "challenge the status quo" in scaling up software startups.

Dubbed the "fast lane" for hyperscaling cloud SaaS businesses, Kubeark has strived to embed low-code, agile development capacity into a software package that plays well with just about every major cloud provider.

This past December, Kubeark decided to take on equity funds to get its early growth plans underway; it wants to secure a strong partnerships ecosystem to drive early adoption, while also honing its core product.

The startup was founded last year and has now clinched a $2.8 million pre-seed runway, courtesy of lead investor Credo Ventures and supporting acts: Seedcamp, which backed UiPath's process automation business previously, along with LAUNCHub Ventures, 500 Emerging Europe, and others.

Kubeark said the pandemic had led to an enormous increase in enterprise cloud usage, as management sought flexible means to maintain remote visibility of mission-critical workloads.

A key part of its pitch is making cloud integration open access, allowing deployment across all types of infrastructure, from private to public clouds, on-premises and closed enterprise IT infrastructures.

Nedelcov added: "Software vendors currently struggle with their hybrid cloud infrastructure and the transformation of products from on-premises to cloud on a large scale. Kubeark helps them achieve operational excellence regardless of where their infrastructure resides: on premises, on public, or on private cloud."

Nedelcov was helped starting the company by his fellow UiPath alumni Teofil Harapcea, Adrian Tudoran, George Dumitrascu, Bogdan Dumitru and Mihai Faur.

Speaking from Credo Ventures' side of the deal, general partner and co-founder Ondrej Bartos commented: "Cloud computing continues to be an important technology trend, with ever more businesses becoming cloud-native.

"In the process, a major persisting challenge they face is to make applications more scalable and easier to deploy. We believe Kubeark is addressing this need by abstracting the complexity and allowing the user to define business rules that power the deployment process.”

Seedcamp managing partner and co-founder Reshma Sohoni said her team were impressed by the versatility of Kubeark's offer.

"We are excited to back Kubeark, a company founded by an incredibly experienced team with roots at Seedcamp-backed UiPath.

"Their holistic yet versatile solution has the potential to supercharge scalability in an efficient and secure way.”
