Copenhagen-based TechBBQ, Scandinavia's largest startup conference, has announced it has secured €4 million to ‘further fuel’ its ‘mission of fostering innovation and collaboration within the tech ecosystem’. The breakdown of funding is Danish Industry Foundation has granted €2 million, The Novo Nordisk Foundation and Realdania have granted €670,000 each, The Danish Board of Business Development has given €335,000, HSBC Innovation Banking has given €268,000, and Copenhagen Municipality has provided a grant of €67,000 to an entrepreneurship program.
"It’s a really exciting time for us at TechBBQ. We have grown from being a small outfit of eight employees in 2020 to a team of almost 30 today. TechBBQ has grown in strength and recognition becoming one of the strongest brands that is synonymous with the Danish and Nordic tech ecosystems,” says Benjamin Rej Notlev, CCO and CIO of TechBBQ.
"With the total funding of €4 million, we can continue our journey and mission to create value for the most important players in the global startup ecosystem. More specifically, we will be able to further internationalise our annual Summit in Copenhagen to become even more inspiring and valuable to founders, investors and partners," he says.
The event began in 2013 as a gathering of tech folks in a park in Copenhagen and has grown to host a tech summit event every September playing host to the Nordic innovation ecosystem. This year the Summit is held on the 13th and 14th of September. It says it is focusing on 'quality over quantity'.
"We have no ambitions of becoming as big as, for example, 'Web Summit' in Lisbon which boasts 75,000+ participants over four days. It is not realistic to shake hands with so many participants anyway, or listen to 1,000+ speakers for that matter,” continues Notlev. "Our team is dedicated and focused on creating an inspiring, memorable and unforgettable event for our attendees as possible so that they get concrete value and unique experiences ensuring they cannot wait to come back the following year."
