Kumulus Water raises €3.1M for atmospheric water generators that turn air into water

Paris climate tech startup Kumulus Water has raised €3.1 million Seed funding.

The company is building atmospheric water generators (AWGs) that transform air into safe, clean drinking water. It aims to provide decentralised, sustainable drinking water in regions facing water scarcity or lacking reliable infrastructure.

Kumulus machines are atmospheric water generators designed to produce clean drinking water from air. They begin by drawing in ambient air through a circular opening at the top. This air first passes through a filter that removes pollutants and particulates.

The filtered air is then cooled inside the machine; when it drops below its dew point, moisture condenses into water droplets, mimicking the natural formation of dew.

These droplets collect on internal surfaces and are funneled into a storage tank.

The collected water undergoes a proprietary multi-stage filtration process that eliminates contaminants, including microorganisms and pollutants. Following filtration, the water is remineralised by passing over natural stones, which improves taste and boosts health benefits.

The clean, mineralised water is stored in a tank and dispensed via an integrated tap.

The system is fully autonomous and can be remotely monitored and controlled via a mobile or web app, allowing users to track water output, receive maintenance alerts, and adjust settings based on local weather conditions.

Kumulus units produce 20–30 litres of drinking water daily, can run on standard electricity or solar power.

Designed to operate off-grid and without infrastructure, Kumulus machines are already serving schools, hotels, and communities across Europe, Africa, and the Middle East. The machines are also suitable for work camps and remote camps.

The round was backed by Bpifrance (via France 2030 SGPI and the Île-de-France Region), regional VCs (PlusVC, Khalys Venture, Flat6Labs), family offices from Europe and North Africa, prominent startup founders, and Spadel, one of Europe's leading bottled water companies.

"We're deeply grateful to our existing and new investors for their trust and continued support," said Iheb Triki, CEO and Co-founder of Kumulus.

"We are especially proud to welcome Spadel as a strategic partner — their long-term commitment to sustainability and innovation closely aligns with our values. Their involvement is a strong vote of confidence in our technology and our vision."

Clément Yvorra, Global Business Development Manager at Spadel, shared:

"We believe the world needs complementary solutions to address the growing challenge of drinking water scarcity.

What convinced us is Kumulus' ability to produce water locally — without packaging or transportation — offering a truly sustainable alternative."

The funds are already being deployed to:

  • Accelerate the development of Kumulus Boks, a new high-capacity line of atmospheric water generators designed for industrial and community-scale use.
  • Strengthen Kumulus' presence in France, Spain, and Tunisia.    -
  • Support expansion into Saudi Arabia, a key market where sustainable water solutions are critically needed.
