Edinburgh-based smart home security firm Boundary raises £3.7 million in seed round

Edinburgh’s smart home security startup Boundary has secured £3.7 million in a seed funding round. £1.5 million of this raise arrives via Skyscanner co-founder Gareth Williams. The remaining £2.2 million is provided by existing Boundary shareholders Scottish Enterprise and Equity Gap. This is Williams’ biggest angel investment to date, and now brings the startup’s total capital raised to £7.9 million. The firm is reporting that the funding will be used to accelerate product development and grow the team size over the coming year and a half.

Boundary Technologies was founded in 2018 by Paul Walton and Robin Knox and launched their first product back in March, a DIY smart home security system. According to Boundary, the system is constantly evolving, with a panic alarm function and Google Home, Alexa, and IFTTT integrations going live this week.

Additionally, the company is looking to further flesh out its crime information-sharing network, aiming to double the team size from 9 to 18.

“This is hugely exciting news and is a change of trajectory from our original, more modest ambitions - we are now set on the path for Boundary to become a top-tier European home security business,” comments CEO Knox. To have someone with the calibre of Gareth giving our product his backing and mentorship is incredible; we have massive plans for the future.”
