Portuguese cybersecurity startup Jscrambler raises $2.3 million in Series A round

Porto-based security startup Jscrambler has raised $2.3 million from Sonae IM, the venture capital arm of retail company Sonae, and early stage investor Portugal Ventures.

The Series A funding will be used to further develop the startup’s portfolio of web and mobile security applications. Its chief product is the name sake Jscrambler for JavaScript application security.

The company will be focusing on expanding in Europe and North America, said CEO Rui Ribeiro.

“In addition, will also ensure the continued development of our product portfolio,” he added. “Jscrambler recently introduced a new webpage integrity module that enables the real-time detection and removal of code injections, MITB attacks, DOM-tampering and data exfiltration on the client-side, and we plan to continue focusing on research and development to ensure the innovation and resiliency of our product line”.

This marks Sonae IM’s latest cybersecurity investment, having recently backed Spain’s Continuum , Germany’s Secucloud, and American startup Arctic Wolf. This round is the firm’s largest investment in an early stage project, according to Alexandre Santos, head of venturing.
