Uber recently organised 'UberPITCH', a project that enabled entrepreneurs from across 37 cities and 21 countries to pitch their startup to some of their respective regions' top investors.

The top four companies that pitched investors during those sessions in an Uber-ordered ride, were recently brought together in Berlin to meet with Uber CEO Travis Kalanick and the company's head of EMEA operations, Pierre-Dimitri Gore-Coty.

Now, it turns out that Uber has also made an undisclosed investment in all four companies.

In a blog post, Gore-Coty says the investments were unplanned, "relatively small but hopefully transformational" and that all were equal across the four startups, which are:

- Brigad (France): an on-demand staffing marketplace for restaurants (more info)

- Memrica (UK): an app to help people with memory problems keep track of the things that are most important to them (more info)

- Otly (Netherlands): teaching children about the value of money and saving with a digital piggy bank (more info)

- Hipromine (Poland): uses insect mining as an innovative and sustainable solution to global nutrition issues (more info)

Kalanick also published the news of the investments on Facebook, saying he was "so impressed by their vision and determination" that he decided Uber should invest directly into the businesses.
