Ukrainian-founded body scanning startup 3DLOOK raises $1 million

Ukrainian-American startup 3DLOOK has secured a $1 million seed round from u.ventures, 500 Startups, and angel investors. The deal, which was first announced in May without disclosing the amount, brings the total funding raised by the startup to $1.4 million.

3DLOOK plans to use the fresh funding to expand its engineering team and further develop its two products—SAIA (Scanning Artificial Intelligence for Apparel) and SAIA 3D.

SAIA, which comes in the form of a widget or API for web platforms and SDK for mobile app developers, is a product for e-commerce retailers. It allows taking the customer's body measurements by two photos, even if they're taken by the person themselves. Like many other products in this niche, SAIA is there to tackle the problem of returns that causes significant expenses to digital fashion retailers. SAIA is still a work in progress, and 3DLOOK expects to release a beta version of it this fall.

A somewhat similar product, SAIA 3D can capture up to 29 body measurements and generate accurate three-dimensional body models. 3DLOOK expects that SAIA 3D would “transform the logic behind the design and product development process by generating powerful data for retailers and brands of their actual customer’s body size and shape,” it stated in a press release. Together with a garment simulation company CLO, 3DLOOK is also testing SAIA 3D in a consumer-facing virtual try-on solution with “two major global retailers.”
