Norwegian design startup Wake acquired by InVision

Wake, a Norwegian-founded design platform, has been acquired by US digital design software firm InVision. No terms were disclosed.

Wake develops tools for product designers to share their work and updates with others in the same organisation to keep each other abreast of work in progress and what might need to change. Its customers include Facebook, Hulu, and Spotify.

Wake’s team will join InVision and work with its product team but will continue under the Wake name. The Norwegian startup was originally founded within the Bakken & Bæck agency and is now based in the US. It will next release a free version of its software, having previously been a paid model only.

“By driving visibility around early design work, Wake enables stakeholders from around the organization to engage in the design process early and often, aligning business strategy, customer insight and product design,” said Clark Valberg, CEO of InVision. “This kind of early visibility and engagement is incredibly powerful and is essential for any company that wants to succeed in today’s business landscape.”

This is InVision’s ninth acquisition and its third in Europe following Macaw and TrackDuck. It raised $100 million in Series E funding last November and launched the $5 million Design Forward Fund to invest in design projects.
