150sec, an online publication covering tech startups in Central and Eastern Europe has been acquired by Espacio, an incubator based in Colombia. No terms were disclosed.
150sec was founded in 2015 by Adrian Pica and Agata Kukwa. Both are global facilitators at Startup Weekend while Pica is a mentor for Startupbootcamp and product manager at Telenav and Kukwa is communications director at Saule Technologies.
Conrad Egusa, CEO of Espacio and former journalist at VentureBeat, said in a statement that his team would continue to build on the founders’ work in covering CEE tech by investing in editorial, video, startups events, and building a job and events platform.
“We see a lot of interesting ideas and technology in the CEE region and this is reflected in the number of investors that are heading there,” said Egusa, but added that media coverage is lacking.
Espacio, based in Medellin, owns several startup-focused publications, such as Social Geek and Latam Tech.
“Agata and I believe in the startups in Central Europe, and in the potential of entrepreneurs here,” said Pica on the acquisition. “When we spoke to Conrad and talked about the investments he planned to make into the editorial team and into 150sec, we felt it provided an important opportunity for the CEE ecosystem and its media here.”
