The Telekom Fashion Fusion Challenge supports European entrepreneurs and startups at the intersection where fashion and technology meet and helps build and develop concepts in high-tech apparel, wearables, and digital lifestyle products.

The first edition of the challenge in 2016 provided mentorship and guidance from fashion industry and startup experts to help make these ideas ready for the market. More than 120 applicants from 25 countries applied for the challenge. In the end, Trainwear took home the top prize for its smart fitness wear that serves as a virtual personal trainer for your workout.

In 2018, the challenge will return once again with applications open until November 17.

Under the slogan of Technology Becomes Fashion, participants in the challenge will be judged on three key categories within fashion technology: Connected Devices & Smart Accessories, Haute Couture & Show Fashion, and Business Solutions & Smart Services.

“In our Telekom Fashion Fusion competition, young talents are given the unique opportunity to realise their dream of high-tech clothing, wearables or digital lifestyle products and bring them to market with the help of experts from the industry, the fashion world and the startup scene,” said Antje Hundhausen, VP of brand experience at Deutsche Telekom.

The expert jury is keen to find ideas that integrate fashion and technology while considering market fit. The challenge is sponsored by Adidas, Intel, Lufthansa, Zeiss, and WIRED Germany.

Ten finalists will be chosen by the jury to participate in the programme and work alongside the mentors from February to May 2018.

During the programme, the finalists will hone their ideas in the Fashion Fusion Lab, a specially designed space for the building and testing of fashion tech concepts. Through the lab, finalists will connect with the programme’s network of coaches, partner companies, and experts.

Ultimately, three winners will be chosen at the final awards show in July.

In addition the competition is supported by Fab Lab Berlin, Styleproofed, Statex, Osram, Trotec, Lufthansa Innovation Hub, Bikini Berlin, AlphaTauri, Hugo Boss, the University of Applied Arts in Vienna, the Parsons School of Fashion, UDK Berlin, Premium Exhibition, and Forster Rohner.
