London-based “online restaurant” startup Taster lands $8 million

The UK-founded delivery-only restaurant company Taster has secured $8 million in a funding round from Battery Ventures, Heartcore Capital, LocalGlobe, Marc Ménasé (Founders Future) and other existing investors.

Founded in 2017 by Anton Soulier, one of the first employees at Deliveroo, Taster currently operates three delivery-only restaurant brands — Mission Saigon, O Ke Kai, and Out-Fry — in London, Paris, and Madrid. It employs 115 people, 100 of whom are chefs, and claims to have served more than 400,000 meals to date.

On the tech side, the startup says it's developed solutions that allow rapid deployment of new restaurants, including seamless integration across delivery services and supply chain and billing automation.

Taster's restaurants deliver the meals through services like UberEats, Glovo, or Deliveroo, and prepare them in local “dark kitchens” optimised for this kind of operations. The company claims that it takes less than 20 minutes on average to deliver any of its meals.
