Belgian insurtech startup Qover expands into Nordics with Wolt, aims to insure 100,000 gig workers this year

Qover, a Belgian insurtech startup providing coverage for gig workers, is expanding into the Nordics through a partnership with Wolt, the Helsinki-based food delivery company, offering an on-demand insurance package for couriers in Finland, Norway and Denmark.

The Belgian company already covers all Deliveroo riders in Europe and the UK. When riders log into the app, they are automatically covered by accident insurance that includes personal injuries and up to €7,500 in medical expenses.

Qover considers itself an Insurance-as-a-Service platform, offering digital insurance options to any company through open APIs at pay-as-you-go prices. Customers receive a partnership manager, who explains the inner workings of insurance, along with the technical framework to expand quickly into new countries.

Licensed in 32 countries, the insurtech startup is active in only 11 so far. In addition to Deliveroo, blue-chip partners include Immoweb, e-bike designer Cowboy, and Poppy Mobility. In light of the new partnership with Wolt, Qover CEO Quentin Colmant said: “We have gathered a wealth of experience in the gig economy. I’m confident that we will hit our next milestone of protecting 100,000 individuals by the end of the year while maintaining our 90 percent customer satisfaction score.” Founded in Brussels in 2016, Qover has raised €15 million to date, most recently an 8 million round last summer.
