The 15 fastest-growing UK based tech companies have formed a consortium dubbed the ‘Tech Zero taskforce’ to take on the climate crisis; with the goal of positioning the UK as the top global destination for green investment.
Led by Bulb CEO and co-founder Hayden Wood, the group seeks to accelerate the government’s plans for reaching net zero emissions by 2050 (or earlier), and will work in partnership with the Prime Minister’s appointee Andrew Griffith MP and the Council for Sustainable Business.
“We need bold action to avert the climate crisis, so we’ve brought together the UK’s most exciting and innovative tech companies to determine the best path to net zero as fast as possible. Tech Zero will go beyond targets - we want to boost access to finance and make the UK the number one destination for green investment in the world,” comments Wood.
In the coming months, the CEOs of the 15 plan to hold a launch summit where formalised commitments to reaching net zero, boosting green investments and helping consumers make greeners choices are expected to be announced.
To this end, the taskforce is promising a Tech Zero toolkit that aims to break down the techno jargon and make it easier and more accessible for companies to set a net zero plan. With this in hand, the taskforce has ambitions to gain signed commitments from at least 1,000 UK tech companies before COP26, the UN’s Climate Conference slated to be held in Glasgow in November of this year.
Founding members of the Tech Zero taskforce include the leaders of allplants, Bulb, Babylon, Citymapper, Faculty, GoCardless, Habito, Hopin, MoneySuperMarket Group, OLIO, Onfido, Revolut, Starling Bank, what3words and Wise, backed by industry body Tech Nation.
