Daily says hello to Europe with Confrere acquisition

The video market is growing exponentially, and across different types of features and use cases. The global video conferencing market itself is expected to reach $24 billion by 2028.

Cashing in on the growing trend, Norwegian video calling startup in the healthcare market, Confrere has been acquired by Y Combinator and Tiger Capital-backed Daily.

The new deal will boost the video calling experience, with an emphasis on call quality, friendly user interface, and compliance in Europe. Both companies were early adopters of WebRTC, the standard that enables real-time video and audio experiences in the browser.

Svein Willassen, CEO of Confrere, said: “We have been passionate about understanding what end-users need for video. We’re now gathering expertise in video calling product and technology in one team. This combined team will give healthcare customers more ways to build secure video calling, and push the boundaries of what is possible in enabling collaborative video in every software product.”

Daily CEO Kwindla Kramer added: “The Confrere and Daily teams both believe that amidst the technical challenges, it’s crucial to deliver an easy-to-use end-user experience. Joining Confrere with Daily gives developers more tools to build thoughtful, high quality live video for customers.”

The acquisition will lead to the acceleration of its product Daily Prebuilt, which allows developers to add video calls to any application or website, and further expand Daily’s presence in the European and telehealth spaces.
