Delfin Rueda has been appointed general partner and chief financial officer of Madrid early and growth stage VC Mundi Ventures.
Mundi Ventures' earlier bets include Clarity AI, the New York AI impact compliance platform. In Europe Mundi has invested in Shift, the Parisian insurtech AI startup, along with Barcelona-based data centre tech startup Submer, among countless others.
The firm's existing GP is Javier Santiso. However it's not clear how Santiso's role will change.
Rueda bagged the role because of his formidable record in finance, payments and insurance. An MBA graduate of Pennsylvania's Wharton School of Business, he most recently served as CFO and board vice chairman of NN Group, a Dutch financial services holding company.
He started his career advising blue chip finance firms like JPMorgan and UBS, later accepting senior roles at ING Insurance and Atradius, an Amsterdam-HQed trade credit insurance provider, before joining NN Group.
In a press statement, Rueda said he was well acquainted with Mundi Ventures and the team already.
"I have known the Mundi Ventures team for many years now and have gotten to collaborate with them on various initiatives," Rueda said.
"I am thrilled to join a firm with such an impressive portfolio of companies and founders and excited with the opportunity to help build out Mundi Venture’s mission to back bold and purpose-driven founders around the world.”
Hiring Rueda furthers a recruitment drive at Mundi Ventures intended to shore up its deal making position. In November 2021, it finalised the hire of a new ESG lead in ex-Clarity AI adviser Yoko Kojima.
