MessageBird founder says deluged with

The founder of Amsterdam-based communications platform MessageBird says he received dozens of responses in just a few hours yesterday from companies wanting to be acquired after posting a “once in a lifetime” opportunity on LinkedIn.

In a highly unusual move, Robert Vis, founder and CEO of MessageBird, the communications platform, posted on LinkedIn yesterday:

“Hi World! Looking for $0-$5m revenue companies with EMI [Electronic Money Institution}  and/or PI [Payment Institution} licence looking to be acquired.”

Vis said it represented a “once in a lifetime’" opportunity and posted an email address for interested parties to contact.

Speaking to approximately eight hours since setting the post live, Vis said:

“I’ve had about 30 companies reach out looking to be acquired of all sizes. Very few are growing. We care mostly about team, and licence, maybe customers. Tech we don’t need.”

Vis didn’t share further details.

The post was greeted fondly on LinkedIn.

One said "seems like a great opportunity”, another said “unicorn opportunity for my network", while a third said, “be part of the nest”.

MessageBird, which achieved unicorn status in 2020 after a $200m fundraise provided a valuation of $3 billion, was founded by Vis and Adriaan Mol, who also founded payment startup Mollie, in 2011.

Its cloud-based communications platform allows businesses to communicate with their customers via channels such as  WhatsApp, voice, live chat and others.

It processes over five trillion messages, calls and emails for nearly 30,000 customers, including Google and Uber.
