Edtech Revyze raises $6M for GenZ social learning app
Revyze has closed a $6M seed round to build a global social learning app for GenZ and GenAlpha.

The round is led by Speedinvest and Moonfire, with participation from Motier Ventures, Station F (world’s largest startup incubator), Illka Paananen (cofounder of Supercell), Riccardo Zacconni & Sebastian Knusson (cofounders of King / Candycrush) & Nickey Skarstad (Director of Product, Duolingo). This latest fundinglatest funding follows a $2.2M pre-seed in 2022 with notable investors including co-founders of Airbnb, Alan, Front, Ledger and MistralAI.

The widening gap between schools and GenZ was worsened by COVID & the rise of Tiktok which have greatly impacted students’ attention span and time spent on social media. The recent AI surge has further impacted what and how students need to learn.

Revyze’s mission is to make the best of this new normal. Their mobile app helps students  learn by scrolling through verified short form videos & quizzes made by their peers – high schoolers, university students and even teachers.

“You can think of Revyze as Duolingo meets TikTok. Duolingo for the gamified learning structure & Tiktok for the short-form video format & social interaction.” said co-founder Guillaume Perrot.

Since its launch in August 2022, Revyze has reached 1M+ users, and over one-third of all 9th graders in France have already used Revyze to prepare for their middle school certificate pushing the app to #1 of the App Store last June. Over 2000 creators have also contributed over 20,000 videos, resulting in over 150M views, an equivalent of 100 years of smart scrolling on Revyze instead of doom scrolling on Tiktok.

“We’re moving from a world where you learn passively in school with teachers to a world of active lifelong learning with your peers. We think humans learn better from other humans because they can relate. That is why we don’t think siloed AI tutoring is the way to go. Instead we believe creators should be in the driver’s seat, supported by AI, which Revyze uses to help them create more high quality, engaging, personalized content.” shares Guillaume Perrot, cofounder of Revyze.

“There are 30 students in a classroom and 30 different ways to learn, yet there is only one teacher. We want to recognize the diversity of ways of learning and meet our users where they are: on Tiktok, Snap or Brawl Stars.”

One of those learners is Max, a French 8th grader with a visual handicap that limits his reading ability to Arial size 24 font. Max struggled to thrive in the French educational system. Even after switching from generalist to specialized schools, he ultimately had to leave his middle school due to bullying. In April, Max discovered Revyze and has been using the app daily for 98 days, which helped him catch up on missed lessons. Max told Revyze “I learn more in 2 minutes in a video than I would in 4 hours in class because it’s easy to use and understand, I can use it when I want and it’s less stressful than school”. His mother agrees “It’s always been impossible for him to learn,” but now “with Revyze, he has progressed so much.”

“We have tens of thousands of stories like Max’s, where our learners told us they not only improved their grades, but more importantly, regained confidence in themselves & curiosity for learning.” Sciberras shared.

Revyze has observed a rising trend of users engaging with the app daily. Many of these users start their mornings by checking Instagram and Revyze while still in bed, even during summer vacation. Revyze’s goal is to focus on this increasing usage so that learners consistently return to Revyze to play and learn, even when there is no test around the corner.

Revyze intends to do so by gamifying the learning experience, through new features such as daily quests, coins, badges and status – learning from Duolingo & mobile games. Additionally, the aim is to build a more social platform so that students can add their classmates on the app to engage with them over educational content, & personalize recommendations further.

Beyond France, Revyze plans to expand in the US in 2025, where it already has a small pilot and an early community of creators.

To achieve this, Revyze is determined to attract the best global talent in Paris: “We’re building a small, diverse team of global talent with very high agency, so we are looking for one world class designer and 2 software engineers who are passionate about our mission to join us.” Florent Sciberras said.
