Dublin-based edtech startup Code Institute has raised €1.2 million to expand its online learning platform internationally. The round was led by Kernel Capital, through the Bank of Ireland Kernel Capital Growth Funds, and Infinity Capital.

The distance learning platform offers university-accredited courses on coding, used by individual learners as well as employees at enterprise companies such as Facebook, Google and Hubspot. The Full Stack Coding Bootcamp course has attracted about 2,000 students.

Founded in 2015 by Anthony Quigley, the Irish company operates in four European markets, as well as the US, Canada and Singapore. CEO Jim Cassidy said the new funding will help accelerate European expansion, specifically.

As part of the investment, Cyril McGuire, the chief executive of Infinity, and Orla Rimmington, a partner in Kernel, will join the company’s board.
