European startups should not be so obsessed with the Silicon Valley model, says former DARPA chief and ex-Google exec Dr Kaigham (Ken) Gabriel.

“Whether a region is risk-averse or not, whether a region has enough capital or not, there are still many other factors that influence the success of a company,” he said.

Gabriel, widely regarded as the father of Microelectromechanical Systems (MEMS) – the tech of very, very small — is currently president and CEO of the Charles Stark Draper Laboratory.
